Groundsure Explorer - Geotagged photos
This article explains some troubleshooting hints and tips for uploading your site photos onto Groundsure Explorer.
A geotagged photo is a photo that has been taken and has captured the location where the photo was taken. This predominately happens when taking photos on your mobile phone or tablet when it has an internet connection.
Explorer allows you to upload these geotagged photos and use the embedded location information to create point annotations.
The main use case is to upload photos you may have taken on your phone during a site visit, to then have the ability to upload the photos directly from your phone.
Below is some advice to help overcome some of the errors that might be shown.
No GPS data found
This means the image uploaded has no associated location information and we therefore do not know where to place the annotation. The location information may have been stripped out of the image during transfer so it may be worth checking where you got the image from.
We currently have a known limitation whereby photos with location information that are uploaded using an Android device will not display in their correct location. This is due to a feature on Android devices that strips out the location information on upload.
There are two possible ways around this issue:
Load the photos on desktop
If you transfer the geotagged photos from your Android device to your desktop you should be able to upload the photos using your desktop browser. However attention should be taken when transferring to your computer. For example you may need to do this manually through a cable connection. If you try to transfer the photos from your mobile device to your desktop using an app this could strip out the location information.
Create the annotation first and then attach the photo
If you know the location where the image was taken you could create your annotation (point or polygon) first and then use the `Add image` button on the control panel to select the photo you want to associate at that location.
