Groundsure Explorer

Learn more about Groundsure Explorer and what it can do for you

Groundsure Explorer is our new way of analysing the environmental data from our Insight reports. For now this just includes our Map Insight historical maps but we are working on making our Enviro + Geo data available very soon.

Explorer allows you to:

  • View and compare historical maps online
  • Add label, pin and polygon annotations
  • Measure distances using different methods

How to access Groundsure Explorer

Groundsure Explorer is included as part of all Groundsure Insight product purchases from the 3rd February. Access to Explorer is via your Groundsure.io account.

When you order your first Groundsure Insight report with Explorer access, you will see a new banner on the control panel of the homepage. Clicking `Select data` to see your orders with Explorer access and to open this in a new tab.

You can also access Explorer via the order details section for each order. This is available in Account > Orders and clicking view details against the order you wish to view. Within this section are you can either of the 'view map' buttons for Explorer to be opened in a new tab.

Maps included

When you first access Explorer all the historical maps available for your site will be presented on the control panel. The historical maps that are included are:

  • Large scale mapping (1:500, 1:1250 and 1:2500 scale mapping) - buffered at 250m from your site boundary
  • Small scale mapping (1:10,000 and 1:10560 scale mapping) - buffered at 500m from your site boundary

Functionality

Explorer offers you a wealth of functionality for assessing your site and the historical nature around it.

    • You can view the historical map by clicking the eye icon and find more information about the map by clicking the ellipses and selecting more information. 
      • If you would prefer a full screen view of the map you can collapse the control panel by clicking the arrow, and open it again by clicking the same arrow.

    • Overlay maps on top of each other and use the opacity slider to see how they compare. The opacity slide can be access by clicking the ellipses next to the map of interest.
      • If you have multiple historical maps loaded you can easily turn them all off using the clear all button at the top.

    • You can refine the list of maps with the control panel to only those that are relevant to you by removing a map from the active view. To do this click the ellipses on the map

    • Don't worry, the map is not removed forever. Should you want to view it again you can click `add layers +` and find all the groups of available data, including historical maps. Click into historical maps and click `Add` on the map you want to view
    • Add annotations in the form of labels, pins, and polygons

    • You can load buffered distance rings onto the map to help better understand the distance of features from your site

    • If you need more precise measurements there is a ruler tool for you to draw linear distances between features.
    • Turn your site boundary on and off as you need
