Groundwater Abstraction Licence

The abstraction of groundwater for any purpose requires a full licence from the Environment Agency. The licensing ensures the environmental protection of groundwater and responsible water usage.

Groundwater Flooding

Results from a rise in groundwater level, usually caused by increases in rainwater, sufficient for the water table to intersect the ground surface and inundate low lying areas. Since groundwater reacts slowly this type of flooding can be long lasting. Groundwater flooding does not include flooding from sewers and burst water mains.
