Fill

In the artificial ground database this refers to any area of ground which has been created through man-made deposition of material. The nature of the material used for the filling is not known, so may be imported natural rock, soil, waste or any other medium.

Flood Defences

Flood protection equipment which can help stop flood water. Such defences include plastic covers to seal airbricks, sandbags, flood barriers/dams and “floodboards” (fixings around windows and doors).

Floodplain

Level land along the course of a river formed by the deposition of sediment during periodic floods.
