Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
BOD is the measure of the quantity of dissolved organic pollutants that can be removed in biological oxidation by bacteria.
Bedrock Permeability
The term permeability refers to whether and how water can flow through a rock. Bedrock permeability data is often used in studies of groundwater and in particular during investigations of pollution or aquifer contamination.
Brine Affected Areas
Areas within the Cheshire salt field, whereby natural brine forms and is extracted by pumping to provide raw material for the salt and chemical industry. This activity creates underground cavities which may collapse, causing subsidence and property damage.
British Geological Survey (BGS)
The BGS is the world’s longest established national geological survey and the UK’s centre for earth science, information and expertise.
